Did you know that extension cords are one of the top leading citations issued by OSHA?

The following guidelines should be enforced on all job sites for extension cords in three wire types: “1926.405” “a” “ii” and “J.”

1926.405 A 2 II J

Cords should be heavy duty or extra heavy duty and should be marked with type designation size 1926.405 a 2 ii J

1926.405 G 2 III

Cords shall only be used in continuous lengths without any splicing or protected by electric type. Number 12-gauge cords can be repaired as long as the outer insulation or sheathing maintains the original characteristics (1926.405 g 2 iii)

1926.405 G 2 IV

Strain relief must be provided to prevent kinking, stress pulling, or transmitted damage to cord 1926.405 g 2 iv
