Safety Training Credits

Safety classes which qualify for credit in RIBA’s safety programs may be designated above. Beacon Mutual Insurance offers seminars to RIBA members who are insured by Beacon Mutual. These seminars count as credit in RIBA’s safety programs. Click here for a schedule of Beacon Mutual seminars.

OSHA 10-Hour Certification

Qualifies for safety program credit.

OSHA-10 Courses are available on an ongoing basis to provide training in compliance with the Department of Labor & Training’s municipal jobsite training requirements. The course is geared to train safety directors, job foremen and field employees in OSHA construction standards. It highlights the areas of major safety concerns, with the intent to reduce accidents on the job site, saving time and money. Each person completing the course will receive a copy of the OSHA Standard 29 CFR Part 1926 and an OSHA-10 certification card.

Members: $90, Non-members: $150. Call the RIBA office for course availability.

Every person working on a municipal or state construction project with a total project cost of $100,000 or more must have card certifying their completion of an OSHA 10-Hour training program on their person at all times while work is being performed. This requirement includes “any private person or entity bound by a contractual agreement to provide goods or services to a contractor/developer who must physically enter the place where work is being performed or business is being conducted”. This does not apply to sales representatives, vendors, or to those delivering building materials and supplies/products to a construction site. (Fines can range from $250 to $950 per offense, on each day in which a violation occurs.)

Hoisting Pre-Licensing Class

Qualifies for safety program credit.

This class will instruct you on the safe use of hoisting equipment,
(forklifts/lulls not included), and is offered 3-4 times per year.

RIBA members & employees: $170.00 PREPAID (Company & Personal checks are accepted.)
Non-members: $250.00 PREPAID (Only Cash, Money Orders and Certified Checks accepted.)

Cost includes: Application completed, notarized, and photos taken; $75 RI State Exam fee; qualified instructor; videos; Q&A session; take-home study materials (including Operating Techniques for the Tractor-Loader-Backhoe, worth $38); and delivery of all paperwork to the Department of Labor. Includes a light dinner.

IMPORTANT! EACH PARTICIPANT MUST BRING THE FOLLOWING TO THE CLASS:
A NOTARIZED statement on YOUR EMPLOYER’S company letterhead, describing your experience and background operating the equipment. Your application will not be processed without this letter.

The State Licensing Exam will be held at the RI Dept. of Labor & Training, Bldg. 73-1, Conference Rm., 1511 Pontiac Avenue, Cranston, RI. The DLT will inform you of your Exam date and time by mail confirmation 1-2 weeks prior to your Exam. It is important that you notify the DLT IMMEDIATELY (during the same week you receive the notice) if you cannot attend on the date given, otherwise you will forfeit your prepaid Exam fee and need to pay an additional $75 to reschedule the Exam.
